Does Size Matter? We Think It Does. Find Out Why Inside.

By now, most people already know the purpose of QR codes. They can be placed almost anywhere to increase traffic to your website. They provide valuable information to visitors to increase sales as well. From selling products to offering discounts and promotions, QR codes are the perfect marketing strategy. The one thing most businesses forget about is the size of the code itself.

When it comes to getting a QR code noticed, size does matter. If you have a full page ad, you don’t want your QR code to be so small no one notices it. You also don’t want it to be so large that no one notices the business name or purpose of the code. Choosing the final size of your QR code depends upon several factors.

Surrounding Content

You always want to display the purpose or at least a teaser for the code. This is what entices customers to scan. All surrounding text, images and logos should be easily visible. For a perfect balance of QR code and text, use codes which are at least the size of your smallest image.

If you have a paragraph or several lines of text, the code should be approximately the same height as four to five lines of text. You never want the other elements included with the code to overshadow it. By basing the code size on other elements, everything stands out and looks more professional.

Stand Out

A large QR code, such as one on a TV shirt or poster, is a great way to advertise your brand or site. With codes people are likely to see at a glance, it is important the code is large and easily visible. QR codes on ads or product packaging must balance with other elements. QR codes meant to be the center point must be much larger than the surrounding elements.

For instance, if you advertise your website on a shirt, the code should take up most of the front of the shirt. You can also include a small logo or catch phrase underneath the code. Always ensure your code is large or small enough to meet the desired purpose.

Also remember that when downloading your QR code, PNG format works the best as it keeps the QR in high resolution format for printing. One big mistake that people make is that they don’t test their QR code before printing, and whether lower quality or a smaller size, they spend tons of money for nothing.
